Second annual ‘Paws for Celebration’

The Animal Rescue League of Boston’s Cape Cod branch announced that it will hold its second annual “Paws for Celebration” fundraiser on Sunday, May 6 from 12-4 PM at Nauset Regional Middle School in Orleans.  Nauset Pet Services in Eastham has signed on as the 2012 Presenting Sponsor in honor of its 40th anniversary.

The day-long event for people and pooches will include a pledge walk through downtown Orleans and various pet-related activities, entertainment, contests, vendors and food on the lawn in front of the middle school.  The inaugural event held last June at Drummer Boy Park attracted over 1500 attendees and raised over $25,000 for the shelter.

As plans get underway, the Animal Rescue League of Boston is seeking local companies and volunteers to support the event.  Various sponsorship levels are available for businesses and include opportunities to have their name affiliated with the Animal Rescue League of Boston and to have a presence at the event.  There are also vendor opportunities for retailers, pet service suppliers and food companies to display and sell their wares on site.  Companies can also support the event by donating raffle prizes or underwriting the cost to have logo’d Frisbees, tennis balls or other items given away to the dogs in attendance.

The Animal Rescue League of Boston is also recruiting volunteers who would like to help staff the event or be part of the planning committee.  Monthly planning meetings are held at the League’s Cape Cod Animal Care and Adoption Center on Route 6A in Brewster.

“Last year’s event was an overwhelming success, thanks to the generous support of the many participants and local businesses who took part,” said Jay Bowen, president of the Animal Rescue League of Boston.  “It was a wonderful celebration of the special bond between people and their pets and we’re looking forward to another tremendous event in 2012.  Given the challenging economic climate, this event is more important than ever in helping us fulfill our mission to help the Cape’s abandoned, abused and homeless pet population.”

The event will kick off at 12 PM and the approximately one-mile pledge walk will begin at 1 PM.  Throughout the course of the afternoon, participants can visit vendors in the park, shop, eat, enjoy demonstrations and entertainment, and participate in activities for them and their dogs, including a photo kissing booth, paw print ornament making and much more.  There is no cost to visit the lawn activities, but walkers are encouraged to register with a $20 donation and to collect pledges.  A fundraising website will be online shortly where walkers can register and create personal fundraising pages.  Visit www.arlboston.org/pawsforcelebration for information.

Additional event details will be announced in the coming months. For up-to-date information, visit www.arlboston.org/pawsforcelebration or www.facebook.com/arlcapecod, or call 508-255-1030.
